An Impression - 2018

This collection takes inspiration from the art movement of impressionism. Impressionism exists on the principle of delivering a subjective depiction of an object, whereby the lines and boundaries disappear and only an impression of this object is delivered to the viewer. Impressionism works on reformulating a sensation in the eye of the beholder whereby the details are suppressed and all that is left of the subject is the feeling it conveys. The early Impressionistic artists, especially Monet, pioneered this aspect of painting, portraying natural landscapes and stretches of flowery fields in an exquisite manner, which is specifically what this collection is about. The garments in this collection are an impression of floral fields, experimenting with the balance of detail and its lack thereof. The silhouettes are classic yet youthful, with a bright colored, foliage themed palette. Material work includes hand embroidery with different textures, as well as patchwork and beading.
